The story behind CoreTech PathWave
Marcus Ellery spent eleven years inside large technology consultancies before founding CoreTech PathWave in 2017. The work was interesting. The billing model was not. He watched clients receive 200-page strategy documents that nobody read, pay monthly retainers for access to a partner they saw twice a year, and get handed off to junior staff the moment the contract was signed. He left to build something smaller and more honest.
The first two years were deliberately quiet. Marcus took on four clients, all referrals, and worked every engagement himself. The goal was to figure out what actually helped and what was just consulting theatre. A few things became clear quickly: clients wanted shorter documents, faster turnaround, and a single point of contact who stayed on the project. CoreTech PathWave was built around those three things. By 2019, a small associate network had formed, drawing on specialists in cloud architecture, data governance, and organisational change.
